Hourwise

Editorial standards

These rules apply to every page on this domain, including the legal pages and any advertising that points to it.

Sourcing

Every substantive claim traces to a published paper, a working paper, a technical note from a statistical agency or a named dataset. Researchers are named in the text so a reader can go and check the original. Where an article describes a method rather than a finding, the technical documentation for that method is named.

Hourwise does not publish a figure it cannot attribute. When the useful number for a passage is one that cannot be sourced, the passage is rewritten to describe the direction and the mechanism instead, or the passage is cut.

Contested findings

Measurement research is argumentative, and much of what makes it interesting is the argument. Where a finding is disputed, the dispute is part of the article: who found what, who objected, and what the objection rests on. Hourwise does not present one side of an open methodological question as settled, and does not resolve a question the literature has left open.

Where a result depends on an assumption that is doing a lot of work — a sample restriction, a definition of work, a single-day observation window — the assumption is stated plainly rather than buried in a description of the result.

Limits on the writing itself

Corrections policy

A correction is made whenever a factual error is identified, however small, and whenever an attribution is wrong or a finding has been described inaccurately. Corrections are made on the page where the error appeared.

Requests go to support@hourwise.online with the page address and the passage in question.

Advertising

Advertising for Hourwise is held to the same standard as the articles. It describes published material, it does not assert or imply knowledge about the situation of anyone who sees it, and the page it leads to corresponds to what the advertisement described. The advertising rules are set out in more detail on the about page.

Independence

No sponsored placements, no affiliate commissions, and no external review of editorial material before publication. Where Hourwise sells a publication, that fact is disclosed at the point of sale and has no bearing on coverage in the free library.
